Coal Mine in Tula Region

Today we are going to visit coal-pit “Podmoskovnaya” located in Tula Region 9 km from Gritsovski village. It is currently the only coal mine in Russian central region. The mine has always been considered a very prospective business but lately the coal was abandoned in central region as a mean of power production. Decrease began in 1990s. And there were times when only in Tula Region there were 30 coal-pits speaking nothing about those in Ryazan, Tver and Smolensk.

Repair section, operating pits and “Kaluzhskaya” metro station that is closed nowadays – all those comprise “Kaluzhskoe” depot for electric locomotives in Moscow. Submarine museum

Vytegra is a town in Vologda region, Russia, located along the shores of the Vytegra River on Volga-Baltic Waterway 320 km northwest of Vologda. The main point of interest in this town with crackjaw name is the museum “Submarine B-440” which was opened in 2005.
At first it seems strange that such museum is located in a place where a submarine is a rarity. But it is no mere chance that the museum appeared here. Headquarters of Onezhskaya fleet located here during the Great Patriotic War. Furthermore, it is a native land of many Russian admirals including “K”-type diesel submarine designer Michael Rudnitsky.

Famous Soviet Monument Reinstallation

On November 28th, the famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman” was installed on the pedestal after restoration which lasted more than five years. Its reinstallation date was postponed several times. The monument of “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman” was created in 1937 by Vera Mukhina. It was in the Soviet pavilion at the World’s Fair in Paris. Two years later the sculpture was installed just outside the Northern entrance to the Exhibition of Achievements of the People’s Economy in Moscow. On November 28th, the sculpture returned to its original place after long-drown restoration.

Do you know what is under the spire of Moscow State University – the one with the golden star? You wouldn’t believe if I told you that not half of Moscow citizens knew it. Even though everyone can come here. Well, under this beautiful spire is the Earth Science Museum at Moscow State University. Let’s make a short but memorable tour to the spire and look at the Moscow from bird’s eye view together with a photographer Sergey Dolya and Earth Science Museum designer Vera.
