Victory Day 2010: in a crowd

This year Russia celebrates the 65th anniversary of great victory in Great Patriotic War. It has become a good tradition to celebrate this day in a large scale – with heavy military equipment, thousands of troops and of course fireworks. Collected here photos made in the crowd to give the atmosphere of celebrations.

1. A huge stage decorated with bright flowers and stars was erected opposite Moscow City Council.

2. Heavy military equipment moved along the streets of Moscow.

3. The Pushkinskaya Square was full of people willing to have a look at military equipment parade.

4. Of course, this holiday is dedicated first of all to veterans and military personnel.

11. There were not only Russian military but people with shoulder strap from other countries as well as the victory in the war was secured by not only the Soviet Union but by its allies as well.

12. A sailor with the portrait of Stalin.

13. This woman said she “brought Stalin from Kiev to save our country”. She said also that the USSR will rise again.

14. People selling books, coins and medals were scattered across the square and streets. It was kind of blasphemous – there were medals similar to those veterans had taken for their exploits.

15. But then the books were shifted for people to climb to parapets to better view of the parade.

16. One could buy Russian and USSR flags, caps and St. George ribbons.

21. Somebody found better view on the lamp post.

22. And somebody was hiding from the crowd reading a book about fighting with stress.

23. There were some other important participants beside veterans – children. It is for them our protectors fought against Nazi.

25. The crowd shouted “Long live Russia!”, “With victory” and “Hurray!”.

27. Engines roared one at a time – heavy equipment was ready to move along the streets.

28. The military took flags and gave the go-ahead to the moving columns.

33. Those who didn’t happen to have a camera had to do with a telephone.

36. As soon as an autopilot system column has disappeared helicopters with flags and banners emerged in the sky.

38. Over the Moscow Hotel.

39. And over the Historical Museum.

40. Then the silence was tore by the roar of engines – jets made up the number “65” in the sky.
